CA Council Elections..!

Dear all,

Just a share by me, after views from some CAs of my generation.
New CAs / members to the profession really don’t care who is placed / posted at the Central or Western Council until we are happy that it is managed diligently and with integrity. We are just happy if the ICAI is managed properly without any personal bias and interest, by the persons assigned with their respective posts.

It may not be fully correct but as far as I have learnt from the views of this generation CAs, these elections are taking the color of the general political elections campaigned by the controversial politicians fighting for power and posts. The CA fraternity sometimes tends to forget that we are the members of esteemed CA Institute of India which is one of its kind and exists as an undivided Educational Institute for the country. We are expected to be utmost integral in all our functions.

We are one of the toughest-course passed out people and call ourselves professionals. But the recent scams have raised much ambiguity on the administrative aspect of our Institute as well as the capacity of elected representatives to run their assigned office. We call ourselves Auditors, forensic investigators, whistleblowers for the management etc but are ourselves unable to run our own administration with integrity. Thanks to the elected representatives who are involved in the scams..!

Scams which recently have caught up much air are just some disgraceful activities, facts of which are circulated now due to lots of questions raised by fellow CAs, may be because of the high stakes involved. But looking at such a working style, the possibility of plenty of petty deceits cannot be ruled out. The ICAI envisaging some situations like these, in its wisdom has well designed the CA syllabus which covers everything from Professional ethics, Conflict of Interests etc. but we are the ones who tend to forget these and blame it on the world being ‘Practical. Of course absolute perfection cannot be achieved and there will always be exemplifications of bad administration but at least all these things can be reduced to some extent by giving new members and new ideas a chance to run the age old offices.. Why are we electing the same people again and again inspite of being aware that their contribution to the respective fields was not above ordinary? Why do we help in re-electing such members who are not even able to present our region and views at upper levels with confidence? Why do we still have such members on board who are unable to even communicate fluently? Why just not give others a chance and see what they have to give us? None of us want to turn our image as well as Institute's image into a something dubious. Lets not forget "New brooms sweep well"  !

In this election period all our inboxes are full of campaigning letters / mails reflecting the contributions made by the past elected members who are re-contesting the elections ..but are said contributions enough considering the tenure enjoyed..? and what about all other possible contributions that could have been made had their conflict of interest not passed their way..
